Advent of Islam

According to our Indian History books, advent of Islam is related to the conquest of Muhammad bin Qasim and Mahmood Ghaznavi and others.

Their invasions are the root cause of Hindu-Muslim rivalry exists in India. That means Islam reached in India through Sword/War!

Is it the Truth? Let us examine…

Arabs have trade relations with Kerala, back to the pre-Islamic period. Pre-Islamic Arabs were practicing immoral lifestyle. Their prime targets were WAR, Wine and Women (3Ws)! They are ready to fight for wine and women. And poems and literatures are revolved within these 3Ws.

History states that about 2200 years ago, Arabs used to visit Kerala to buy pepper, sandalwood, elephant horns etc. It is through these Arab traders, the Christianity and Judaism reached Kerala first.

The members of caravans have the same cultural background of primitive Arabs. They are interested in wine, women and war.

Once natives paid attention to an Arab caravan who was saluting the people with 'Peace' and practicing a new trading system.

This new traders become the talk of the town and the news reached to the Cheraman Perumal (King) Kulashekara Varma. He invited them to the palace and enquired them about the transformation.

"Now we are Muslims" the leader said. Cheraman Perumal asked about Islam and leader explained about Prophet Muhammed and his vision (Islam).

(On a moon-lit night the king while walking on the rooftop of his palace along with the queen saw the moon suddenly splitting into two halves. Later he came to know through the Arab (Jew) traders that a prophet called Muhammad came in Arabia).

Now he confirmed the advent of the Prophet and wishes to meet him in person.

Impressed by this new messenger of God in Arabia, the king set out for the holy land after dividing his kingdom and assigning various territories to local chieftains to ensure smooth governance. In Arabia he met the Prophet and embraced Islam in the presence of Abu Bakr Siddique. Prophet called him Tajudin.

Perumal presented a gift to the Holy Prophet.A tradition (Hadith) of the Holy Prophet has also been reported from one of the companions, Abu Saeed al Khudri, regarding the arrival of Cheraman Perumal:

"A king from India presented the Messenger of Allah with a bottle of pickle that had ginger in it. The Holy Prophet distributed it among his companions. I also received a piece to eat." Hakim reports in 'Al Musthadrak'

Cheraman asked the Prophet to send a delegation with him to propagate Islam in his kingdom. Prophet assigned Malik bin Deenar and 12 others for this purpose.

Cheraman, died on his way back to India and was buried on the shore of the Arabian Sea at Salala in the Sultanate of Oman. It is said that he had earlier written letters to the local rulers of Malabar and sent it through his ministers along with Malik bin Dinar, a companion of the Prophet. In the letters he had asked them to "receive the bearers of the letters and treat them well and help them to construct mosques at Kodungallur and elsewhere". The rulers of Kerala honoured the letters and permitted Malik Bin Dinar and his fellow Arab traders to build mosques in Kerala. The mosque built in the early 7th century at Kodungallur, (AD 628 – Hijra 5) known as Cheraman Malik Masjid, still exists with its original structure and is said to be the oldest mosque in the sub-continent. It is named after both Cheraman Perumal and Malik bin Dinar.

It is very clear that Islam came to India, by peaceful delegation called by an Indian King and that King Cheraman Perumal Kulasekhara Varma was the first Indian Muslim.

In school, Indian History text books should mention the peaceful acceptance of Islam by Indians, which will cause to the peaceful co-existence of communities in India. And the conquest of Qasim and Gazni, should not pass on while referring the advent of Islam in India, which is the main cause of hate and hatred among communities.

Our History should be reliable and should do justice to the history. We have to demand it, strongly.

No war, no sword ever used by Malik Deenar and his delegations, who are the guests of Indian King.

If Gazni and others made invasions or looted temples or molested women, it should be taken into account as the invasions of emperors and has no religious values.

I request to do your utmost to change the historic views about the advent of Islam. And demand to Indian and Kerala government to include the historic facts related to the advent of Islam in India.
